ANIMATION

Ball cycle animation
  • Year: 2017 / Tool: After effect, Photoshop
  • This animation is about a Google Chrome icon bouncing within a desktop, and it is navigating around other desktop icons in the space. The major principles I have utilized in this animation are Staging, Squash and Stretch, and Ease in and Ease out.

First of all, the staging is about a Google Chrome icon (the ball) is located on the top of a desktop menu. After the ball is lifting up by the desktop menu, then it rolls and fall down to the first object. This setting is in order to direct the audience’s attention and guide viewer’s eye around the screen.

Secondly, I use the principles of Squash and Stretch, Ease in and Ease out to emphasize the movement of the animation. The ball squashes when it hits the ground and stretches out as it bounces up and down. The ball does not move at a constant speed. It moves slow in when it hits the ground and slow out when it bounces up in order to prevent a mechanical movement. These principles could make the reaction of the ball bounces on the floor looks real and more natural in the animation. Viewers could also sense the weight and speed of the ball in this animation.
